Sales tax exemption (the big one)

NJ exempts zero-emission vehicles from the 6.625% sales tax entirely. This is among the most valuable EV incentives in the country — a $50k Tesla saves you $3,300+ vs an equivalent ICE.

Applies to both new and used EV purchases. Tesla automatically applies the exemption at checkout for NJ delivery addresses.

HOV / Express Lane access

Registration fees

Standard NJ vehicle registration applies. No EV-specific surcharges currently, though periodically debated.

🛣️ Charging infrastructure

Supercharger coverage

NJ Turnpike Express EV charging

NJTA partnered to install fast charging at every service plaza. Includes Tesla Superchargers plus CCS/CHAdeMO at most locations.

Workplace + MUD charging

NJ Make-Ready programs are aggressive. If you live in an apartment complex without charging, point management at the JCP&L or PSE&G MUD programs — installations are essentially free for the property owner.

🏠 Multi-family dwelling charging

NJ does not have a statewide "Right to Charge" law as comprehensive as California. However:
